so t
his sonogram was at 8 weeks- we are almost to 20 weeks now! I remember thinking that this moment made everything real to me. We heard the baby's heartbeat (which seemed extremely fast for something the size of a kidney bean!) I was not expecting to hear the heartbeat and I don't think Jason was either. The doctor laughed at the expression on our faces because we were both so surprised. It was a moment that I will never forget!
By the way- the baby is upside down by the way- doctor said it was doing a handstand! how funny...
At 8 weeks: Webbed fingers and toes are poking out from baby's hands and feet, it's eyelids practically cover his or her eyes, breathing tubes extend from it's throat to the branches of it's developing lungs, and it's "tail" is just about gone. In it's brain, nerve cells are branching out to connect with one another, forming primitive neural pathways.
all that, and just an 8 week fetus. The more and more I think about how a little life is developing inside of me the more I believe in miracles.
At 8 weeks I was very sick. Thankfully, that part has passed. The human brain is also amazing because all the pain and sickness I felt is now a distant memory. I guess that is why women decide to have multiple children- they forget how uncomfortable it can be. And I suppose once I get to hold my baby it will all be worth it.

first update
After weeks of deliberation I decided that I would create a blog to keep friends and family updated on baby news. Jason and I are so excited about meeting the little one, but we still have a long way to go! I suppose I should give you all details on the past few months! Let me start with there have been good moments and very difficult moments! I definitely had the awful morning sickness, but when they say "morning" they were lying!! The sickness was all day, all night, and all morning. At times it was almost humorous- I can not tell you the number of times that I had to run out of my classroom at full speed trying to make it to the bathroom! There were also times that I threw up in my car, outside of my car, and even on the side of Jason's car! (he was not pleased.... but he apologized later for getting mad at me).
Besides the morning sickness, the extreme tiredness has taken over my body. Thankfully Jason does everything around the house so I was/am able to just concentrate on my job and grad school.
We have had one sonogram from the regular doctor (which I LOVE) and one from the genetics doctor. So far everything seems great! I will upload pictures shortly...
The more exciting news is that we are going again to the doctor on May 19th and a sonographer will let us know for sure at 7:30 am whether it is a boy or a girl! Speculation is that the little one is a girl, but I am not so sure. We will see!
