14 weeks- Genetics Visit

So during the 14th week we scheduled an appointment to visit a genetics doctor. They check for things like Down Syndrom, Tay Sachs, Trisonomy 13, Spinal Bifida, and Cystic Fibrosis. They took four tubes of blood which was definitely not my favorite part :( I was extremely nervous about the procedure and the outcomes. We don't have any history of the above, but you never know. You just hope from the moment that you find out that you are pregnant, that your baby is healthy. People constantly ask if I want it to be a boy or a girl, and by people I really just mean my middle school students, and I answer with "I don't care, I just want it to be healthy". Before when I heard people say that, I thought "how cliche, they must have a preference!" but really, I don't, I always thought I would want a little girl to dress up and have a really strong bond with, but now a little boy seems just as exciting. The genetics doctors said he thinks it is a girl- but I have not attached myself to the idea at all. I think it is entirely too early to see if it a girl or boy- either way, 50/50 chance. I just really do want it to be a healthy and happy little baby.

But the best part of the whole visit was the sonogram. The first sonogram was exciting, sure, you get to see your little creation on tv for the first time- but this sonogram was amazing! It was a lot longer and it shockingly looked like a little baby! we could see arms, legs, everything! Little baby was sleeping I suppose and suddenly it woke up and stretched! It's little arms and head moved back and it turned around... I am crying just thinking about how precious/indescribeable the moment was. So baby became a thousand times more real and I immediately was crying- surely the doctor is use to this craziness that pregnant women display. But as I looked at Jason, he was wiping away his own tears- so then I REALLY started crying! (I wonder if he is ever going to actually read this?- if so, sorry honey! :))

And in case you are wondering, all the blood work came back normal and I go back May 22 to do a second round- routine procedure.

I will attach sonogram pictures from this event very soon!
